Subject: MEDIA ADVISORY: CSSDP creates drug education website in response to Health Canada's 'not4me'

MEDIA ADVISORY

April 9, 2010

Student & youth organization just says no to government drug education campaign, creates drug education website in response.

The ‘not4me’ youth drug education campaign launched by Health Canada features far too many of the failings of previous youth drug prevention strategies. In response, Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy (CSSDP) has designed a drug education website written by young people for young people. This website features honest information on drugs, including harm reduction strategies and how to talk to your parents and friends about drugs.

To ensure MPs learn the value of honest, realistic, youth designed drug education, CSSDP is holding a lobby day April 13th on Parliament Hill, where members will be discussing what young people want and need from youth drug education programs. We invite you to attend our press conference launching our very important and ground breaking website.

When:             10:00 am Tuesday April 13th, 2010

Where:           CHARLES LYNCH PRESS ROOM (130S CENTRE BLOCK)

Who:              Tamara Kalnins (Vice-Chair of the CSSDP Board of Directors)

Caleb Chepesiuk (Director and Outreach Coordinator, CSSDP)

                        Tara Lyons (Executive Director, CSSDP)

“One of the biggest failings of previous youth drug education programs is that young people don’t take them seriously,” says Caleb Chepesiuk, CSSDP staff member. “We are trying to provide a resource that gives young people serious, honest information on drugs and their risks, and tips on how they can keep themselves and their friends safe.”
